Bike & Hike Weekend Saturday, June 18th – 20th Meet in Damascus VA

Friday 6:00 – weekend kickoff Happy Hour at the side yard of Dancing Bear B&B in Damascus

There are lots of things to do in the area if you arrive early on Friday: Barter Theater or shopping in Abingdon, ride on the Creeper Trail (Whitetop ?), hiking, exploring in Damascus.

Saturday

9:45 – Meet at the little red caboose in Damascus at the town park for a group photo.

10:00 – Depart. Some people will begin biking here to Abingdon (15 miles slightly up hill) and others will drive to Alvarado Station and bike 7 miles to Abingdon.

After biking or on your way back to Damascus, you may want to stop at the Abingdon Winery (1/2 mile from Alvarado Station parking lot) and/or the Damascus Brewery (at the corner of Hwy 58 and Government Road) across from the grocery store just off of the trail.

Saturday Dinner – you have options in both Damascus and Abingdon. A group usually gets dinner to-go and then meets at a B& B where members are staying to have dinner together.

Sunday

9:45 – Meet on the side street next to Dancing Bear B&B for goodbyes and group photo.

10:00 – Depart for Grayson Highlands State Park. Meet at the office/restroom on the left just as you enter the park. If the weather is nice, there will be spectacular views and we will see the wild ponies.

*** RAIN JACKET, WATER & SNACK REQUIRED FOR THIS HIKE

We will stop for a lunch break to enjoy the views.

*** The weather at Grayson Highland CAN and DOES change dramatically and quickly – BE PREPARED!

Sunday Dinner: we will stop in Sparta on the way back. The time will depend on the weather and the length of the hike.
